Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a sugar naturally produced by your body. HA is a molecule that loves to absorb water, it has the ability to hold 1000 x its weight once it pulls water from your surrounding tissues! A large amount of the naturally occurring HA is found within the body and present within the skin therefore allergic reaction is very uncommon and healing time is generally quick (5-14 days). Common side effects include bruising and swelling and more rare complications can be discussed with your injector.

As we age, the amount of HA within the skin decreases causing the skin to lose volume and develop fine lines and wrinkles. By injecting HA dermal fillers into the skin, you can restore volume loss for a more youthful appearance. It typically lasts 6-12 months once injected.

Is a 1ml (full syringe) a lot?

1ml of filler is a very natural amount especially the first time its injected in one area. It takes building and multiple sessions for more dramatic results. As you can see in the picture to the right, 1 ml is not even a teaspoon!
